Autonomy & Personal Freedom: Discovering Ease and Grace

A 6 week self-paced Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement course with Sarah Baumert

The Feldenkrais Method® views health as the ability to meet the challenges of life with ease and grace. It is a state of being that allows us to move and function with confidence, and to adapt to change with resilience.

The lessons in this series will help you discover how to utilize ground forces through your skeleton so you can find your own internal sense of length, lift, and personal freedom. These teachings will aim to empower you to find agency over your own health and sense of well being. We use imagination, appreciation, and the relationship to both space and ourselves.

“It (Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement) is listening, thinking, feeling, appreciating both internally and externally what is happening, how the body moves in space.” - Moshe Feldenkrais

If you are looking for a way to improve your health and well-being, your sense of wholeness, or your artistic/athletic performance, this series may be a good option for you. ATM lessons can help you to become more aware of your body, improve your movement patterns, and reduce pain.

Recently I had the opportunity to study with Feldenkrais trainer Jeff Haller. His teaching allowed me as a student to question and explore from a position of knowing that there is still something new and very specific to find in myself. His suggestion is to discover who you are vs. decide who you are. It’s an invitation to elevate yourself and step into your greatness. Sounds pretty great, right?

At the heart of the Feldenkrais practice is the concept of expanding one’s self image through movement lessons. These lessons first help you become aware of your habitual patterns of movement. Then, they give you a new understanding of how you can move in more efficient and effective ways. Finally, they provide you with a space to practice these new ways of moving and being in your body.

“Transcend your history. Do not live in it.” - Jeff Haller

Let’s explore these ideas together.
Lead a person to a sense of wholeness → a sense of autonomy → an internal authority.

A healthy nervous system is a state of being that allows us to move and function with confidence, and to adapt to change with resilience.

“The human nervous system is eminently suitable for change.” -Moshe Feldenkrais

What people are saying about Sarah's teaching:

I find your classes to be exceptionally supportive and illuminating, and I’ve so benefitted from the learning and the unlearning I’ve experienced. Drop by drop, this practice and what I’ve received from your teaching have radically changed how I am in my body and in my life. These online Feldenkrais courses have become some of my favorite practices ever, and I’m excited every time you propose a new series. - Betsy

I am continually amazed at the “magic” of Feldenkrais. After each of the many classes I have participated in, I feel uplifted, both in posture and in mood. A clear vision is revealed and my energy is revived. Thank you, Sarah for your wise and kind presence. - Lisa

After these lessons, I often feel like I am “floating”. I continue to realize, in real time and activities like walking, the connection between all parts of my body….the supple power that moves up and down my spine, from my head to my pelvis. - Helen

I had a moment where I was feeling being propelled by my pelvis and it was so distinct. Everything felt easier, just less effort. And I was shocked when I got to standing! It just felt like gravity in the room was different. Because that is always difficult and it was actually kind of easy in a way.

This is a non-judgemental, non-corrective, and liberating way to experience your body in motion. You will experience learning at your pace where noticing what makes you feel good is a priority. Notice what you are curious about, and recognize that experiencing pleasure and enjoyment in your body are measures of freedom. The lessons will be suitable for all levels, and will include a variety of positions, from lying on the back or side, to hands and knees, moving from sitting to lying, or rolling.
