In the next Feldenkrais series offering we explore the hidden potential within the upper body. We will delve into the intricate symphony of the small joints, from nimble fingers to powerful shoulder blades. Discover how your arms weave into the fabric of your entire being, from your core to your feet. Imagine feeling your spine lengthen as you reach, your chest open as you move, and your whole body become one fluid instrument. When practicing Feldenkrais, we hold the concept that when one avoids pain, it helps us decrease unnecessary tension and helps us find new ways to move and connect with the wholeness of ourselves. This 10-week series blends the mindful movement of yoga with the gentle awareness of the Feldenkrais Method.
We will start by learning pelvic floor mapping, an essential tool for accessing pelvic floor healing, strength, and recovery. Each class will use pelvic floor mapping as an entry point for a well rounded practice. These classes will work with the body as a whole functioning system, not a collection of parts. While the access point of our learning will start with the pelvic floor, hips, and abdominal complex, you will still experience a well rounded practice.

Each of these Yoga + Feldenkrais Blended classes will infuse a more traditional yoga asana practice with the Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement method. These classes are an interdisciplinary excursion of yoga, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, joint specific training, self-massage, breathing exercises, movement puzzles, and a compassionate mindset to help you feel a greater sense of ease and comfort in yourself. Allow your body to be your guide. All levels are welcome.
So how are these classes different than a regular yoga class?
These classes typically begin with an exploratory floor sequence to engage the brain-body connection, awareness of breath, and activation of specific areas of the body that will be targeted during yoga poses. The last half of class is typically slightly more of a traditional yoga practice, in which the students have the opportunity to experience the yoga asanas from a new perspective and with the information gathered from the first part of class.
Each class will infuse a more traditional yoga asana practice with the Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement method. These classes are an interdisciplinary excursion of yoga, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, joint specific training, self-massage, breathing exercises, movement puzzles, and a compassionate mindset to help you feel a greater sense of ease and comfort in yourself.
