Finding Ease: Feldenkrais Foundations using Gentle Movement

A Four Lesson Awareness Through Movement mini series taught by Sarah Baumert

This series will break down some of the principles that are fundamental and foundational to the Feldenkrais® method. You could be an athlete, a long time student of movement, or be recovering from an injury - all levels of movement ability and experience are appropriate for this series. Both newcomers and consistent students of Feldenkrais will learn the principles at the heart of the method.

The Feldenkrais Method of somatic education is a practical approach that uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways to feel more connected to their body.

This series will discuss some of the foundational aspects of the method including imagination, spontaneity, play and curiosity, generating choices, reversibility, and exploring the self image. In an Awareness Through Movement (ATM) study context, we are “learning to learn”. Students become more sensitive and responsive to daily sensations of movement, and discover quality of life improvements that show up in unexpected places. The ATM principles and experiences from the lessons start to become part of regular life and functional movement becomes more effortless and ease filled.

Students find the method gives them a clear path to feeling a more embodied self. This will be a non-judgemental, un-intimidating space to create friends with your body (yourself!).

What students are saying about Sarah’s teaching and the Feldenkrais® method:

The part of this work that is really sweet is the awareness. It was really cool to feel this expansiveness mobility, and that feeling of space and life and consciousness. After the last few years of stress, I am starting to feel like a different being. This class has me feeling into a lot of different places in new ways, and I just feel more human. Well, I feel as though being human is different than I thought. And it’s better!
— Katherine
I particularly liked how, without a hint of judgment, you offered a variety of possible ways we might be experiencing various movements. That really reinforced that there was no “right answer” and, therefore, led to my being more aware and honest about how I was feeling.
— Toni

You make my anatomy conscious!
